I’ve been creating A LOT of About Me pages lately (which is great for me because they’re my absolute fave!) They seem to be the website page that most women get s-t-u-m-p-e-d writing.
I believe this is because many women in biz:
Have never been taught how to write one (let’s be real - starting a business does NOT mean we know how to do all the goddamn things), and
Struggle to see their worth and share about themselves in a way that celebrates their uniqueness and awesomeness (which are key elements of an About Me page! Also, sidenote, how friggin’ sad is this?!)
Why is your About Me page so important?
In a day and age when we have so many options at our fingertips, people are choosing who to bring on board to support them in their life and business based on who the person behind the brand is. It’s become less about the what, and all about the who.
Your About Me page offers you the perfect opportunity to communicate that all-important WHO information to them.
Think about it …
Say you’re looking for a Copywriter (#represent). You land on my page and the page of another gal. She and I are offering almost identical services and have similar strengths … so how do you make your choice?
You choose the person you most resonate with, that’s how. You choose who makes your heart tingle, or whose words make the hairs on your arms stand up, or who has similar values and interests to you.
And all that, my dear, is communicated via your About Me page. (On a sidenote, just to be crystal clear, YOU should be weaved throughout your whole website - your About Me page simply offers you prime real estate to share your essence and really sell yourself!)
I know for myself, if I don’t resonate with someone, I won’t hire them. This doesn’t mean they’re not an awesome person or great at what they do - I just know that for me, a lack of resonance means they’re not my support gal.
It’s important to note here that your About Me page is not meant to position you as the best Life Coach/Relationship Coach/Business Coach/whatever it is you do for EVERYONE. HELL NO! You don’t want to resonate with everyone, but you do want to resonate with your people and the more authentic you are in your About Me page, the more successful you’ll be at converting your ideal clients (aka your people!) into paying clients.
