Eleven Ways to Make Your Work Practice More Feminine
In a recent article I shared, I wrote about feminine and masculine energies, the pro’s and con’s of each of these and how embracing a more feminine approach to my business (and life more generally) has benefited me and helped my biz grow.
You can read that article here.
Today I want to gift you eleven simple but transformational feminine practices that you, as a babe in biz can do to invite more balance, calm, intuition and flow into your days.
Though these practices are directly to business, they will benefit all areas of your life - your relationships, emotional wellbeing and connection with Self - just to name a few.
Sit for a short meditation between work tasks
If you're anything like me, you're juggling a million-and-one things everyday. Tiredness and lack of energy from overthinking are R.E.A.L which is why creating space in your day to retreat from the constant thoughts banging around in your head is important! I guarantee you'll feel calmer and more on top of you sh*t - and that my dear equals a happier, healthier and more productive you!
Eat away from your desk
We all know that shovelling food into your mouth while you work isn't good for you. One, you don't digest your food properly (or appreciate it for that matter!) and two, it's just an unhealthy habit to get into. I know you're a gal who strives to have balance in her life so make eating away from your desk a priority yo!
Take time out and clear your mind before making big decisions
Quite often, when we have a big decision to make, we (rather stupidly) think that constantly giving thought to the issue will help us figure out what the right way forward is. I'm sorry to tell you that this just isn't so. What ends up happening is that we make a head based decision, rather than a heart based decision - and if you're here, in this space, I know that that's not how you want to live your life.
Taking time out (even for just 10 minutes!) will help you make a decision that feels good and is true to your Higher Self.
Do a breathing exercise, take a whip around the block, go and grab a muffin from your local cafe (now you know what my weak spot is!) and then come back to your decision making!
Turn off the alerts on your computer and phone
I don't care what anyone says, having notifications pop up on the computer and/or phone screen when you're knee deep in the creative process is distracting. Turn them off. You don't need them. Full stop.
Create a morning ritual
Morning is my FAVOURITE time of the day. How I spend my morning dictates how the rest of my day flows (or doesn't flow!) Starting your day with stress, an overly engaged mind or chaos is not conducive to a productive work day. Instead, strive to implement things that are calming and grounding.
My favourite way to start my day is to rise early, enjoy a mediation, head outdoors for a walk (or hit my yoga mat) and bask in the sunshine while I drink a warm mug of cacao. I have personally seen the benefits that having a nourishing morning has had on the success of my business!
Schedule your work tasks around the times of the day your energy peaks and dips
I thrive in the mornings which is why I spend this time creating and writing. My afternoons, when my energy tends to dip, are when I take care of my more administrative tasks - sending invoices, responding to emails and planning. Tune in to your unique energy composition and try scheduling your work days to work WITH you, not against you.
Enlist support!
As some who regularly recruits support in her own business, and who is that support for other women, I know just how game changing it can be to:
Invite fresh energy into your business, and
Let someone else work in their zone of genius, so you can stay in yours.
We often forget that we don't have to do it all alone, and that feeling overwhelmed, stressed out and time poor is NOT the norm.
To be able to hand over the tasks you don't have time for, you hate doing or you're just not good at (because hey, not everyone is born a great writer/designer/admin whizz) IS BIZ AND LIFE CHANGING!
Check out how I can support you to grow your biz and take better care of your beautiful self here.
Learn about cycle awareness and then tailor your work to the seasons of your cycle
Learning about cycle awareness changed my life.
I now have an understanding of when my creativity and energy peaks each month, and when I need to retreat and be more in my left brain. I also show myself FAR more compassion now that I better understanding my cycle.
Gone are the days I'd beat myself up for lying in bed and watching Netflix at 10AM on a week day when my energy was low! If you haven't explored cycle awareness yet, I strongly urge you to explore the work of Claire Baker, Stella Artuso and Alisha Brunton! You're welcome!
Get your creative juices flowing by moving your body regularly throughout the day
Put your virtual hand up if you ever catch yourself at the end of the work day thinking, 'Sh!t, I barely moved my tush from my chair today!' Yep, me too! Not only is moving regularly throughout the day good for our physical bodies, it's imperative to our creativity and wellbeing generally! No excuses - get up and stretch, dance or move! Your body, mind, spirit and business will thank you for it!
Engage your senses
It's easy for us to get caught up in the do-do-do, but I know that's not how you want to live your life or run your business (and if you do then you're on the wrong website honey!) Very often, we're conditioned to think that our work life and environment has to be 'dry', boring and devoid of lushness! Experiment with engaging your senses while you work. Cleansing your work space with sage each morning and lighting essential oils or a candle will bring a delicious, calming and feminine energy to your days.
Create a clear separation between work time and play and rest time
When you have your own biz it's hard to create separation between work and play. You LOVE what you do and you want to succeed so your biz occupies your mind a heck of a lot. And as wonderful as that is, it's not healthy for the mind to be in work mode all of the time. Play and rest are NOT a waste of time (or money for that matter!) In fact, they help us return to Self, fuel our creativity and make us even better biz babes.
Create an end time for your work each day, don't check your emails or social media, and take the weekends off to rest. Trust me, the growth of your business relies on it!
