Aah, writing newsletters. It's the thing every biz babe knows she needs to be doing in her business, but regularly lets slide off her to do list. Why? Because other things are deemed more important - like posting to social media (which, let's admit, often lures us in for F-A-R too long!), tending to emails, sending invoices and drinking copious amounts of tea.
But the thing is this - your newsletter list is one of the few communication tools you have complete control over in your business.
So many babes spend a TONNE of time scavenging for followers on social media, only to have algorithms change at the drop of a hat. And changed algorithms means less exposure. And less exposure means you're up sh!t creek without a client.
Many women neglect their newsletter lists because they are time poor. They see their newsletters as being one of the least important things they need to tend to in their business. But I'm here to tell you that you've got this all wrong sweet thing. In fact, I'm going to be so bold as to say that growing and nurturing your newsletter list is one of THE MOST IMPORTANT things you need to be doing. Case in point ... the gals behind the super successful Two Girls And A Laptop note that "people on your email list are 5 times more likely to see your content than your Facebook followers and those you convert into paying customers spend three times as much." In this modern age, people's inboxes are inundated with information. Because of this, people are being more and more selective about who they're letting in to their inbox.
Here's my top 5 strategies to help you GROW your newsletter list and make your newsletters STAND OUT!
KNOW YOUR IDEAL CLIENT - INTIMATELY!

Many people (my past self included!) skip the planning and strategising part of setting up their businesses and dive straight into the execution phase. They're in a hurry to succeed so they do-do-do but sadly, they end up doing all the wrong things because they don't know who they're talking to/selling to/serving. I've seen it time and time again in my work as a Business Coach - the more clarity people get about who their ideal client is, what their pain points are and what they need help with, the more successful their businesses become.

SHARE AN ENTICING OPT-IN
As I mentioned before, people's inboxes are being inundated with information these days. Because of this, people are EXTRA cautious about who they hand their precious email address over to. People always want to know, 'What's In It For Me?' and they want that something to be pretty darn good! Once you have a clear idea of who your ideal client is, have some fun thinking about a free opt-in you could gift them to entice them to sign up with you (and to say thank you for joining of course!)

OFFER ORIGINAL CONTENT
Want to know a sure-fire way to get people to unsubscribe from your newsletter list? Not offering original content. Sure, it's ok to share newsletters that only include links to your blog posts/podcast episodes/etc. from time to time but people want original content as well. Treat them as the V.I.P's they are! Share content with them only and offer them gifts and offers that only they are entitled to. They'll love you for it, I promise!
ACTUALLY PROMOTE YOUR NEWSLETTER (AND BE CREATIVE ABOUT IT!)
Stand back from your work and, as an outsider ask yourself, 'is it obvious and easy for people to sign up to my newsletter list?'
Do you have a sign up box:
:: on your home page?
:: at the end of your blog posts?
:: attached to your social media accounts?
:: on your email signature?
:: as a pop up on your site?
Now ask yourself, 'do I regularly share the fact that I have a newsletter?'
:: do Instagram stories about your newsletter creation process?
:: share sneak peeks?
:: share sound bites from your soon-to-be-released newsletters, in an attempt to get people signed up?
:: change your opt-ins often so as to appeal to new people?
CREATE A NURTURE SEQUENCE
YAY! You've gotten an ideal client signed up to your newsletter list! Now you want to show that person just how you can serve him/her! Very often, the people who sign up to your newsletter list will have little to no idea about what you actually do. They see an opt-in they love and they sign up - end of story. Its not uncommon for the people who sign up to your newsletter list to have never even visited your website. They may also have little to no idea about what services/products you offer (and we want and need them to know what we offer because this is how we make money honey!) A nurture sequence helps us 1. connect with our new V.I.P's and 2. educate them about how we can change their lives!
